Wines Of The Week - No. 1

With countless wine reviewers and bloggers out there, who has time to read them all? Well, we do! See we don't have much of a life here at 1000 Corks. But we know you do.

So, starting this week we have a new feature. We highlight seven fantastic wines, and share with you who likes them and what they thought about them.

Marcel Lapierre, Morgon, Beaujolais, 2007

Dr. Vino did a tasting of summery wines, and the Marcel Lapierre was the winner: "a delicious wine, unanimously loved".

Vigna Uva Vino said it tastes of...

Mmmm...Cupcakes!

It all started with an unexpected desire for chocolate cake. We were in the middle of Santa Barbara wine country, in a small touristy town geared, naturally, toward the wine aficionado. There were wine bars and tastings aplenty in Los Olivos, but apart from the exceptionally large cookies offered at Panino, we found little in the way of dessert.

Patrick in front of Side Street Cafe

Just when we were about to drop into the final stage of serious chocolate deprivation, we found Patrick, chef and owner, standing in front of his 'Shut' Side Street Cafe. We were disappointed thinking we may have failed in our quest, but Patrick directed us to...

Lunch at Le Bec-Fin

I flew back east a few days early for Mother's Day this year. The first restaurant I went to after arriving in Philadelphia was, of course, Le Bec-Fin.

Le Bec-Fin is an institution, and Philadelphia is very lucky to have Georges Perrier. Other nice restaurants come and go in this town, but this one is always at the very top. If Georges were to ever depart for another city, it would be devastating to...

Dirty For Goode - An Endorsement

Murphy-Goode is looking for "a social media whiz". The job is to spend time on Facebook and Twitter, drink lots of wine, and play some dice. The salary is $10,000 a month and you also get a very nice house to live in.

Hardy for Murphy-Goode

We at 1000 Corks can't think of anyone better at mucking around on faddish websites, drinking wine, and playing dice than Hardy Wallace. Of course we've never actually seen Hardy play dice, but we are...

We get a fan letter

We get a fair number of emails. But recently, we got our first fan letter.

Here it is in its entirety:

Good morning, Sam. I am Liz, newsletter editor (and part owner) from A Cork Above. I first came upon your fabulous website after following the link back from your frequent crawling of our website. We are new to online sales and often research products before we add them to our inventory.

I have learned that the best place to go to check our competition and to find how prevalent a product is on the web, is to 1000corks.com! Your website is easy to navigate and quite thorough.

Thank you Liz. I feel better after spending...

Vintage Search

1000 Corks has a pretty simple interface. But behind that simplicity there are some powerful options.

You've probably figured out that you can search for a specific vintage by just typing the name of the wine and the year you are looking for into the search box. So if you wanted to search for a Lafite from 1988, all you need to do is type Lafite 1998 into the search box.

Advanced Vintage Search

Many people will be happy with that. But we've added a few more tricks. Let's say you want a bottle for a once in a lifetime special event. You'd like an '82, but you're not sure you want to blow your whole retirement account at once. You've also heard that the '85 is wonderful and not nearly as expensive.

You can search for both at the same time by putting Lafite 1982 1985 into the search box.

Now let's say you've just received a large inheritance. You'd like to get some older bottles. You can search for anything before a specific year using a <. Similarly a > will search for any year after the one you indicate. So to search for all the Lafites before 1970 you'd type this: Lafite < 1970.

If you wanted to build a vertical from 1962-1970, you could specify a range: Lafite 1962-1970.

You can do more complex searches as well. If you want to search for all the recent great Lafite vintages at once: Lafite 1982 1985 1986 1988 1989 1990 1995 1996 1998 2000 2003 2005.

You can even combine all of the above. Want to see all the Lafite's before 1960, as well as those from 1982 to 1988 and the 1998 and 2000? Simply type Lafite < 1960 1982-1988 1998 2000.

After selecting the wine and vintage you want, you can sort by price or bottle size. And, of course, you can use our local search function to see if the wine is available near you.
