We recently had the opportunity to purchase extraordinary Chateauneuf du Pape at very compelling prices. At this point, Domaine de la Vieille Julienne needs little introduction. This estate has become an icon in the most famous of appellations from the Southern Rhone. We have long been fans of the wines from Vieille Julienne where 5th generation owner and winemaker Jean-Paul Daumen has propelled this property into the elite of both Chateauneuf and the Rhone Valley. The reviews for the featured wines reflect the quality of the estate, the winemaking and the excellent 2018 vintage. Dunnuck also loved the Les Trois Sources bottling, scoring it 95 Points while noting its softness and gorgeous perfume. Farming Biodynamically, Daumen refuses to use herbicides, fungicides, fertilizers and chemical products. He uses indigenous yeasts only and his wines certainly reflect the purity of his approach. All the wines are certified biodynamic by Demeter. Trois Sources is made from three vineyards located on the north side of the Mont Redon plateau. The soils are comprised primarily of sand and interestingly each of these vineyards has its own natural spring. The combination of soil, orientation to the sun and the influence of the Mistral winds allow these wines to find perfectly balanced ripeness with many layers of complexity. Make no mistake, the Chateauneuf du Papes are world class highly collectible and age able wines which would be a welcome addition in any serious collector's cellar. The wines from Vieille Julienne are delicious and would make excellent additions to your cellar. We are thrilled to offer all of these wines at the lowest prices in the country. Jeb Dunnuck 95 Points - "True to form, the 2018 Chteauneuf Du Pape Les Trois Sources is a softer, more elegant wine than the Les Hauts-Lieux and offers a gorgeous perfume of black cherries, black licorice, tapenade, violets, herbes de Provence, and jus de viande. Deep, full-bodied, and beautifully layered, it gains weight with time in the glass and is going to benefit from just short-term cellaring. It doesn't have the concentration for any long-term cellaring yet my money is on it evolving nicely for a solid 10-12 years." |
