Description: | In 1970, Enrique Forner founded Marqués de Cáceres, a historic alliance between a two regions: La Rioja Alta and Bordeaux. Today it is the fifth generation of the Forner wine family, with Cristina Forner at the helm, continuing the tradition of producing top wines in La Rioja with its Crianza, Reserva and Gran Reserva wines. Marqués de Cáceres was one of the first Spanish wine brands to be imported into the Usa, while back at home in Spain, the winery paved the way to the improvement of Rioja. Verdejo is the main grape variety of the Cáceres vineyards in Serrada (102 hectares) and La Seca (23 hectares), traditional villages of outstanding quality in the Rueda Denomination of Origin. The vines are meticulously grown with moderate yields, using the latest viticultural techniques which are highly respectful of the environment. The estate sits on poor, mainly gravelly soils typical of Rueda, but with other higher quality areas of sandy soils. The climate has a strong Continental influence, well suited to the appropriate ripening of this variety, producing fresh, intense wines of great finesse and refinement. The grapes are harvested at night, at cool temperatures in order to preserve and maximize their organoleptic qualities and prevent oxidation. Produced exclusively from their own plots of estate land surrounding the Bodega. The grapes are cooled before being gently pressed in an oxygen-free atmosphere. Fermentation is undertaken at monitored temperatures of between 15-17 C. Differing protocols with varied yeasts are followed depending on the areas of the estate, in order to maximize their full potential. The wine is then left on its fine lees and carefully refined until stabilization and final bottling. This charming little white has an elegant, subtle nose, revealing aromas of white fruits with delicate citrus notes. Intense and powerful on the palate. The vibrant and flavorful fruits reveal balance, freshness and a fine touch of grapefruit, providing a pleasant and long-lasting finish. This wine has finesse and complexity at a delightful everyday price. |
