Bovio Barolo
Vintage: | 2019 |

Description: | This bottling really represents the elegant, crisply structured Barolos of La Morra. For this bottling, the family makes use of lighter extractions than in their single-vineyard bottlings. Nevertheless, give it several hours in the decanter to allow it to open up, or hold onto it until the end of 2025. Pair it with risottos (with porcini or saffron or Nebbiolo wine), lamb chops, roast duck, sausages, and moderately aged cheeses. Wine Advocate 93 Points - "The Gianfranco Bovio 2019 Barolo opens to a light garnet appearance with hints of plum and terracotta. It shows delicately measured fragrances of rose, earth, licorice and aniseed. It's classic Nebbiolo with the balance, elegant concentration and power that we see across the 2019 vintage. The blend represents a selection of fruit from La Morra and Castiglione Falletto.". James Suckling 93 Points - "This is red-fruited and floral with notes of violets, spices and citrus perfume. Medium-bodied with broad, but rather ripe, well-integrated tannins. Balanced, even and fresh with some spicy herbal undertones to close. Very attractive. Try from 2025.". The Bovio family winery has deep roots in the Barolo region, with the original small winery in the 1950s. Starting in La Morra, they renovated their operation in the 1970s and gradually acquired plots in a number of vineyard districts of reknown: Annunziata, Rocchetevino, Arborina, Gattera (La Morra) and Parussi (Castiglione Falletto). Today the 3rd and 4th generation runs the winery. |
