Ojai Syrah "JOHN SEBASTIANO" Sta. Rita Hills 750mL

Vintage: 2018
Description: Winemaker Adam Tolmach is one of the greatest California Rhone Rangers weve met! For Over 25 years, Adam has helped to push Rhone and Burgundian varietals into limelight again and again, with his wines earning high scores by the publications, as well as raves from the consumers! The wines showcase intense fruit flavors, yet retain the ability to accompany food.not overpower it!. Adam works closely with a dozen different vineyards on the Central Coast, and one of the most windswept and rugged parcels is the John Sebastiano Vineyard. Jsv, for short, is planted on a hill on the eastern edge of the Santa Rita Hills, vertically presented to the fierce and cool westerly winds of the Pacific Ocean. Also a source for other notable producers such as Peake Ranch, Herman Story, Dragonette, and Paul Lato, the vines grow in the limestone-rich Linne soils, that are coveted for the lift they endow the Rhone varietals. Here, yields are small, and vines struggle to ripen, yet produce intensely-flavored grapes. Exactly how small of yields? Well, Adam was only able to make 285 cases this year, so thats not a lot! Aged in French oak for 18 months, this is a fantastic wine that will show gloriously on the dinner table. Respected critic Jeb Dunnuck gave this 96 points and stated this is a California Syrah for the Jamet lovers out there!. Thats quite a compliment. Theres not a lot of this wine in the world, so grab it while you can!. Jeb Dunnuck 96 Points - "Another wine that got a big 'Wow' in the notes was the 2018 Syrah John Sebastiano Vineyard. This medium-bodied, Cote Rotie look-alike offers a brilliant bouquet of ripe red and black berry fruits, white pepper, flowers, iron, and bouquet garni. Fresh and incredibly complex, with silky tannins and no hard edges, this is a California Syrah for the Jamet lovers out there!". Antonio Galloni 93+ Points - "The 2018 Syrah John Sebastiano is a deep, powerful wine that is going to need a few years in bottle to soften, as it is pretty tightly wound at the moment. Blue/purplish fruit, lavender, spice and menthol add a touch of whole cluster savoriness and give the 2018 an exotic quality that is impossible to miss. This is an especially fine rendition. There is so much character here."
