Old Overholt Bonded Rye Whiskey
Description: | Old Overholt Bonded Rye Whiskey 100 Proof Hard to find in stock! What you might not know is that in 1897, a law was passed in the States called the Bottled in-Bonded Act, and Old Overholt was one of the first whiskeys to take advantage of it. It meant that all whiskeys must be aged for four years, bottled at 100 proof, and contain liquid from a single distillation season. This was meant to keep distillers honest and guarantee the highest integrity whiskey for those enjoying it. In the spirit of this history, weve decided to give it another go and do things the oldfashioned way by bringing you Old Overholt Bonded Straight Rye Whiskey â the first bonded release from Old Overholt in more than 50 years.Old Overholt was originally distilled in Broad Ford, Pennsylvania, 35 miles southeast of Pittsburgh. The company claims to have been established in 1810. The whiskey is named for Abraham Overholt, a farmer and distiller and later, grandfather of the American Industrialist Henry Clay Frick. It was the so-called "medicinal" alcohol of the United States Navy during World War II. It is reputed to have been the alcoholic beverage of choice of the gunfighter and gambler Doc Holliday.Old Overholt, among America's oldest whiskey labels, is not what it used to be. Around 1810, Abraham Overholt grandfather of Henry Clay Frick began distilling rye on his farm in western Pennsylvania. When he started a commercial operation, he named the whiskey Old Farm. In 1859, his son built a new distillery to continue production of Old Farm as well as a new spirit named for the Overholt family. Now made by Jim Beam |
