Palate, extremely expressive, with a freshness highlighting the balance between structure and aromatic richness.\r\nJames Suckling 90 Points \r\nWine Enthusiast 90 Points\r\nAbout Ch\u00e2teau de Ponci\u00e9\r\nA Tailor-made APPROACH\r\n\r\nAt Ch\u00e2teau de Ponci\u00e9, traditional methods of vine pruning \u201cen gobelet\u201d\u009d have progressively given way to wire training using the cordon method. Each parcel of vines is trained according to its needs, with patience and determination. Grass cover, tilling the soil and sustainable viticultural methods are now being favoured to restore life to the various terroirs.\r\nA particular characteristic of the domaine \u2013 each parcel also receives special care and attention at harvest time. The yields never go over 45hl\/ha, and are sometimes as low as 25hl\/ha for certain parcels in order to obtain finesse, elegance and well ripened grapes. Around 100 grape-pickers come to the domaine each year to hand harvest the small bunches of fully ripened Gamay grapes.\r\nChateau de Ponci\u00e9 is one of the oldest and most renowned estates in Fleurie, dating back to 949 Ad and producing some of the finest wines from the best terroirs in Fleurie. At the end of the 19th\u00a0century, Chateau de Ponci\u00e9 wines were even sold at the same price as those of Clos Vougeot! Today, Joseph Bouchard oversees the viticulture and Fr\u00e9d\u00e9ric Weber, Bouchard P\u00e8re & Fils Cellar Master, the winemaking and ageing in a pure Burgundian style. All barrels used at the domain come from Bouchard P\u00e8re & Fils in Beaune, seasoned by the ageing of several vintages. |
