Description: | 98 JS / 96 Jd / 96 Vm / 96 Wci / 94 De / 94 Wi. This is a luscious and beautiful young wine with blackberry, hazelnut, dark-chocolate and black-olive character. It's full and layered with round, soft tannins and a caressing finish. Great finish. Seductive young wine. Best after 2027 and onwards. - James Suckling. The 2019 Château Le Gay is a spicy, already complex, yet structured Pomerol that has some up-front appeal, yet will unquestionably benefit from bottle age. Its deep ruby/purple color is followed by a medium to full-bodied, ripe, nicely textured Pomerol that has abundant spiced red and black fruits, notes of dried herbs, loamy earth, and spicy oak, ripe, velvety tannins, and plenty of length on the finish. Give bottles 4-5 years and enjoy over the following two decades. It should merit that higher barrel score at maturity. - Jeb Dunnuck. The 2019 Le Gay has quite a Left Bank nose thanks to the potent graphite/pencil box scents that infuse the red fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins, black cherries and wild strawberry fruit, elegant with ample weight on the finish. This is a lovely Pomerol with great promise. Tasted blind at the Southwold annual tasting.-Neal Martin, Vinous Media. The wine opens with nuances of flowers, truffles, chocolate, espresso and black cherries and wet earth. The deeply colored wine is intense, full-bodied, powerful, mouth-filling and long, finishing with layers of chocolate covered black cherries, plums, and hints of boysenberry. Give it a few years in the cellar and it will offer at least 2 decades of fabulous tasting experiences. Drink from 2027-2055.-Jeff Leve, Wine Cellar Insider. A brilliant Le Gay, plump and rich as is the estate signature, with full-on tannins that close in towards the end of play. Very true to the spirit of the property, and a good reflection of Pomerol also, overloaded with blueberry and blackberry flavour, great floral aromatics, packs a punch. New cellar, with integral vinification in barrel. Harvest September 16 to October 3. A yield of 35hl/ha. Drinking Window 2028 - 2042 - Jane Anson, Decanter. A blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc, the 2019 Le Gay is deep garnet-purple in color. It bursts from the glass with powerful notes of crushed blackberries, juicy black plums, and licorice, followed by hints of violets, Indian spices, and dark chocolate. The full-bodied palate is generous, spicy, and plush, with a lively line and great length.-Lisa Perrotti-Brown, Wine Independent |
