Drink now. 11,500 cases made, 3,000 cases imported. -km"(ws). "The citrusy 2018 Estate Torrontés has to be one of the finest representations of the variety in the high-altitude vineyards of Salta. There are some grapey notes reminiscent of Moscatel pulp, and the palate is vibrant, with clean flavors and balancing acidity. 120,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in July 2018. They have planted a further 1.5 hectares of Malbec in their Altura Máxima vineyard. And it seems like winemaker Thibaut Delmotte is back." (wa). "Bright yellow. Lovely nose melds lemon, menthol, dried herbs, lichee and ginger. Then almost surprisingly round, sweet and large-scaled in the mouth; quite full for Torrontés but also vibrant thanks to its healthy acidity (reportedly 6.7 grams per liter). A turpenic resiny quality is nicely countered by bright citricity and a floral note. This seriously palate-saturating Torrontés finishes long and outsized, with a slightly phenolic character. A rather extreme style from high-altitude vines (up to 7,500 feet) but it works. (made entirely in stainless steel)" (vm). "Here is the Salta mountain freshness! A really enticing combination of melon, floral and a wide spectrum of delicate citrus aromas. I love the balance of juicy fruit and crisp acidity that gives the bold, long finish a lot of life. Screw cap." (js). Winery Notes:. Torrontés is the signature white wine of Argentina. A cross between Muscat of Alexandria and the Mission Grape of Galicia, Torrontés grapes typically yield a light, refreshing white wine with Muscat tones redolent of jasmine and orange blossoms. Thriving in cool dry conditions, Torrontés has become synonymous with Argentina?s Salta Province and, in particular, the Calchaquí Valleys. Their altitude and microclimate have helped produce particularly outstanding Torrontés harvests. At Colomé, we strive to emphasize the delicate elegance of the Torrontés grape. Sitting 1700 meters above sea level, La Brava, our Torrontés vineyard, is at the varietal?s ideal altitude. We cultivate our vines using the pergola system and we focus on low yields (approximately 10 tonnes per hectare) to realize the full potential of the grape. Founded in 1831 Bodega Colomé is one of the oldest wineries in Argentina. In 2001 it was bought by Donald Hess whose vision was to produce terroir driven wines at the highest elevations in the world. The vines are located in the Upper Calchaquí Valley, North-Western Argentina, which are considered to be the viticulture region of highest altitudeintheWorldbetween 2,300 and 3,111 metres above sea level. Since then Colomé is regarded as one of the top Ultra Premium Wineries from Argentina. The altitude factor in Upper Calchaqui Valley has a positive impact on the quality of the grapes because the sun?s ultraviolet rays are present in a higher degree. The higher the altitude, the most exposure of the grapes to the sun?s ultraviolet rays, which makes the grape to generate a thicker and darker skin to protect itself from the rays gaining color and concentration. The region is semi arid and desert. Soils are sandy with presence of gravel and there is a huge thermal amplitude between day and nights (aprox. 25° C). Rainfall is low with an average of 120 mm a year.
