| Description: | In 1963, Luigi, Ercole and Fernando Pighin decided to buy a 500-acre farm in the middle of the Friuli Grave Docg, and over the next few years, the brothers modernized the estate. They revamped vineyards, planted orchards, refurbished the cellar, added 74 acres in the prestigious Collio subregion, and even built new offices for the company. These three brothers worked hard to make Pighin exemplary producers of Friulian wines, and in the process, they earned the reputation for making two of the best Pinot Grigio bottlings in the region (one from Friuli Graves and the other from Collio). In 2004, Fernando and his family gained sole ownership of the Pighin estate, which now operates as two distinct winemaking entities: the Risano Estate in Friuli Grave and the Spessa di Capriva in Collio. One thing, however, remains unchanged, and that is the deliciousness and typicity of the Pighin family of wines. |
