The palate has impressive power and drive, packed with fresh red-cherry and boysenberry flavors. The acidity is a feature and holds a very long, supple and lively finish. (6/2021) 95 points Vinous. Deep scarlet. A complex, highly perfumed bouquet evokes spice-tinged raspberry liqueur, cherry and potpourri, along with a deeper cola nuance and a hint of smoky minerality. Velvety and seamless on the palate, offering expansive red and blue fruit, lavender pastille and spicecake flavors underscored by a vein of juicy acidity. The 2018 Pinot Noir Eileen Vineyard was made with 48% whole clusters and aged 17 months in 57% new French oak. It has a medium ruby color and savory prosciutto and aniseed-laced rhubarb and cranberries plus loads of latent spices. The medium-bodied palate is fresh and silky, its juicy uplift is an excellent foil for its broody, spicy fruits, and it finishes long. (eb) (12/2020) 92 points Wine & Spirits. From the top end of the Cristom property, where the vines are the most exposed to the Van Duzer winds, this wine is spicy and tightly wound when first poured. The dark plum fruit is steeped in licorice-root notes, with a lovely concentration that lingers. It has the tannic backbone and the whole-cluster grip to match duck sausages.
