Romain Chamiot Mondeuse Vin de Savoie

Romain Chamiot Mondeuse Vin de Savoie

Mondeuse Noire

Vintage: 2014
Description: Half acre parcel hillside parcel of 80-year-old-vine Mondeuse (that's the grape) in the Savoie, French Alps. Natural fermentation in stainless steel, then one year in older barriques before bottling. Deep red color. Smell and taste wild red cherries, cranberry sauce, mulling spices, tobacco leaf, thyme, white pepper, pomegranate. Medium/high acidity, fine tannins, no oak flavor. Finish is long and earthy. Importer notes: "Romain Chamiot exploits a minuscule 0.2-hectare hillside parcel of 80-year-old Mondeuse in Apremont. Natural fermentation in stainless steel, then one year in older barriques before bottling. It is a particularly vibrant, complex Mondeuse. The old vines lending a deeply sappy and concentrated fruit character. Only 40 or so cases make their way into the US each vintage."
