| Description: | Calon was the name given to the boat used in the Middle Ages to transport wood from one bank of the Garonne to the other. And at the beginning of the 18th century, the Marquis de Ségur, who received the estate following his marriage, added his name to it and thus the label of this 3rd classified growth of Saint-Estephe was born. Château Calon-Ségur remained in the Capbern-Gasqueton family throughout the 19th century, until 2012, when the estate was bought by Suravenir Assurances, which continues to produce Saint-Estephe wines with an inimitable style. Château Calon Ségur has also become famous for its label that decorates the bottles. Since the 18th century, the heart has been the symbol of the estate and pays tribute to the words of the Marquis de Ségur: "I make wine in Lafite and Latour but my heart is in Calon". For nearly three centuries, the lovers of Château Calon Ségur have remained faithful to this appellation's iconic property of the appellation. The vines have an average age of 35 years and span over 130.9 acres. The wines are Grand Cru Classé and Third Growth Classification. Known for having a deep purple/plum/ruby color and a full bodied style with aromas of cherries, berries, herbs and spices, truffles, and earth. |
