Description: | Bernard Gaucher, Brut Prestige, Champagne, France, 2010 60% Pinot Noir, 40% Chardonnay Bright Apple & Citrus, Hazelnut & Toasted Almond, Firm & Rich Champagne's Aube region is an increasingly exciting destination (or perhaps it's better to say "origin") for lovers of outstanding sparkling wine to explore. Living up to the reputation built by greater Champagne's more northerly climes, the wines of the Aube are often more Pinot-centric, and this 2010 vintage cuvée from Gaucher tips the scale at 60% Pinot Noir with Chardonnay comprising the remainder. Grown in Kimmeridgian soils similar to those of nearby Chablis, a balance of power, vibrant acidity, and mineralistic complexity may remind festive drinkers of great northern white Burgundy. Cheers! Serving Suggestion: Baked halibut w/ clarified butter, white asparagus, & potato salad w/ dill & hazelnut-Dijon dressing. Crispy melette w/ shallots, smoked artichokes, & black truffle butter. |
