Description: | Organically Farmed. James Suckling 92 Points - "Vivid red-fruited character with notes of blood orange, spicy herbs and wet stones. Medium-bodied with polished tannins and a succulent fruit profile. Juicy finish. ". From the upper slopes of Castellina, Castello La Leccia's everday red is an great example of the outstanding value in the hills of Chianti Classico. It's classically minded, with its vivacious, mid-weight Sangiovese character of ripe red fruits (cherry, cranberry, pomegranate) and orange peel are aided by hints of light spice and mineral. Keeping everything taut and well-orchestrated, the body in this wine is fantastic. Broad tannins and appropriate acidity keep the fruits balanced and make this a great food wine for fall! Think lasagna, ragÚ sauces, roasted lamb, or braised veal shank. Written historical sources mention Castello La Leccia as early as 1077, when the nobleman Rodolfo di Guinzo acquired part of the castle. Around the mid 1400s, the castle, as well as most of the Chianti area was annexed to the dominion of the Ricasoli family. The castle and its hamlet were purchased in 1920 by the Daddi family. After a long, careful and conscientious restoration of the castle and its surrounding gardens, Francesco Daddi, with the precious input of the Architect Alessandro Loni Coppedè, returned it to its ancient splendor in 2012. In 2018, the baton was passed to the Swiss Sonderegger family who, with the same passion and commitment of former times, now manages Castello la Leccia. |
