| Description: | Medium ruby in color. On the nose, aromas of dusty rose, leather and truffle frame the red fruit flavors including lovely cherries. On the palate, the wines structure puts it in the medium plus to full-bodied realm. Nice acidity provides lift to the cherry and strawberry flavors while non fruit flavors such as leather, tobacco and white pepper add complexity and interest. Enjoyed with rich dishes such as grilled, roasted or braised red meat, game dishes, and seasoned cheeses. Vino Nobile di Montepulciano is one of three great Sangiovese production zones in Tuscany along with Chianti Classico and Brunello di Montalcino. The Vino Nobile di Montepulciano appellation is a fraction of the size of either which probably accounts for it being lesser known than the other two. The well-regarded Sangiovese clone, Prugnolo Gentile is used to craft this wine. The hilltop town of Montepulciano produces a wine, which combines the richness of Brunello di Montalcino with the perfume of Chianti Classico. The very "noble" estate of Paola De Ferrari Corradi was founded in 1962 by her father. Paolas elder sons Luca and Nicol are now managing the vineyard. Together they make a fantastic wine, which should not be overlooked. This is a terrific example of what one can expect from this region of "noble vines." Salute! |
