Le Potazzine Gorelli Rosso Di Montalcino
Vintage: | 2021 |

Description: | Vinous Media 93 Points - "The 2021 Rosso di Montalcino is wildly fresh with vivid raspberry, cherry, mint and clove. This flows across the palate with the silkiest of textures contrasted by tart red berries and zesty acids as hints of autumnal spice settle in toward the close. The 2021 finishes concentrated, long and youthfully intense. Grippy tannins promise many years of development. There is simply so much going on here and more to come, yet this newly minted Rosso will require patience to show its best." Drinking Window: 2025-2033 -Eric Guido. Before founding Le Potazzine in the 1993, Giuseppe Gorelli got his start working for Giulio Gambelli, the man behind Tuscanys first-ever 100% Sangiovese wine, Montevertine Le Pergole Torte. After learning the ins and outs of the Sangiovese grape from one of the regions most historically important producers, Gorelli returned to Montalcino to take over his fathers estate, Due Portine. The estate did well for years; however, Gorelli was in search for something he could build from the ground up, so he purchased a high altitude, 8.5 acre estate in Castiglione del Bosco and founded Le Potazzine. Eventually, he sold Due Portine, which dissolved into a larger producers estate, but allowed Le Potazzine to grow to 12 acres- all in the Brunello di Montalcino zone. This is an important note because Rosso di Montalcino can come from both the Brunello zone and just outside of it. When the best producers, such as Le Potazzine, produce a Rosso from entirely Brunello-quality fruit, you can rest-assured that it is a very high quality wine. Gorelli ages his Rosso in large, 5,000 liter Slavonian oak barrels for at least 12 months. This helps to incorporate oxygen into the wine slowly resulting in a terroir-driven and classic style. To take it a step further, he also takes some of the barrels that are not fitting his strict standards for Brunello and puts them in the Rosso. All of this results in a wine of distinct power, typicity and elegance. This baby Brunello comes from another absolutely outstanding year in Tuscany and shows notes of black cherry, blueberry, cocoa powder, crushed rock, anise, fennel, violet and rose. Just one of its many shining attributes, it has an unbelievable balance between dryness, acid and gripping tannins. Drink now or over the next 10 years. |
