Craggy Range "Te Muna Road" Sauvignon Blanc Martinborough

Craggy Range "Te Muna Road" Sauvignon Blanc Martinborough

Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand

Vintage: 2019
Description: 93 points Sam Kim. Offering terrific fruit purity, the wine shows Granny Smith apple, kaffir lime and fig characters on the nose, leading to a beautifully weighted palate that's succulent and flavoursome. It's varietally expressive, while remaining stylish and poised, making it delightfully drinkable. (3/2020) 92 points Bob Campbell. Slightly softer with more restrained acidity than usual but attractive estery, bubble gum, passionfruit and melon flavours. A youthful wine that needs a few months to settle down. (4/2020) 92 points James Suckling. A very fresh, lithe and juicy feel to this sauvignon with bright, juicy green passion fruit and green mangoes taking center stage, amid fresh, stony resolve. (8/2019) 91 points Decanter. From the cool-climate of Martinborough, intense aromatics carry zesty grapefruit, tangerine and ripe peach alongside fresh earth notes. These continue on the crisp, mineral palate, where exceptionally bright lemon verbena meets fresh-cut grass, giving way to clean, harmonious finish. (ss) (9/2020) 91 points Wine & Spirits. Complete and complex, this Sauvignon has layers of earthy citrus flavor, from spicy grapefruit zest to tangy orange pulp. The fruit texture is succulent while the acidity offers a bitter edge to keep it firm and structured. Pour it with citrusy fluke crudo. (jg) (4/2020) K&L Notes. Craggy Range is located in the Gimblett Gravels Winegrowing district of New Zealand but brings in fruit from a several estate vineyards. From the winery: "The Te Muna Road Vineyard is located some seven kilometres outside of the Martinborough township. The vineyard consists of two distinct terraces; the higher comprising very old, stony clay-infused soils perfect for Pinot Noir. The lower terrace of younger stony soils interwoven with limestone provides an excellent environment for Sauvignon Blanc. The cooler climate of Martinborough ensures the wine is aromatic with steely minerality while the rocky soils gives intensity of the fruit. The region's warm, dry summers and mild winters have led to complex and structured wines with subtle aromatics and an elegant finish.".
