Terredora Falanghina

From Campania

Vintage: 2010
Description: "The 2010 Falanghina is fairly cool and inward in this vintage. Sweet, floral aromatics meld into a core of yellow stone fruit. The 2010 is a pretty Falanghina, less obvious than some recent versions, but that all works quite nicely here. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2014. Terredora Di Paolo is one of the leading estates in Campania. This is a superb set of releases, with many excellent choices at all price ranges. Unfortunately I was not able to taste the 2009 Lacryma Christi del Vesuvio Rosso or the 2005 Taurasi Campore, as the estate thought those wines needed further bottle age." (wa). Winery Notes:. Tasting notes:. Pale yellow color. Offers a rich and intense aroma of fruit with hints of apple, pineapple, quince and pear. It is fresh and clean in the mouth with excellent acidity, good structure and a floral finish. A wine for the whole meal equally at home with hors d'oeuvres, soups, fish dishes, cold dishes, buffalo mozzarella and fresh cheeses. Other Information:. Occupying a sort of middle ground between greco and fiano, literally and figuratively, is Falanghina. It borrows some of the piney fragrance of fiano and some of the juiciness of greco to create a refreshing, mostly coastal white, a wine to be sipped in a cafe' in Positano or Capri, with a classic caprese salad of tomato, mozzarella, and basil. The prime territory for Falanghina runs mostly along the coast, from the Falerno del Massico DOC zone in the north, where it is thought to have originated down past Naples and onto the rugged Amalfi coast. Unlike Fiano and Greco, Falanghina is not usually showcased on its own, but rather blended with a variety of other local grapes. On the slopes of Vesuvius, it's thrown in with verdeca, coda di volpe, and greco; on the Sorrenite peninsula (taking in the Penisola Sorrentina and Costa d'Amalfi DOCs) it is combined with biancolella and/or greco, as it is on the island of Capri.
