| Description: |  Description: In 1988 Ernst Loosen took over the family business of over 200 years. He realized that with ungrafted old vines in his best-rated vineyards he had the raw materials to create world-class wines. He restricted crop size, prohibited chemical fertilization, insisted on very strict fruit selection. Located on Insanely steep slopes with red slate and volcanic soils, Ărziger WĂźrzgarten (ERTS-iger VERTS-garten, meaning âspice garden of Urzigâ) produced wines with an enormous fruit aroma and a dense texture on the palate, all held in harmonious balance by fine, focused acidity. This dense, lush Spätlese (late harvest) gets an extra dimension of volume and power from the very old vines. Designated as âErste Lage,â equivalent to Grand Cru, their oldest vines (120 years old) are found in this vineyard. |
