Description: | 97 JS / 97 Fs / 93-95 Wa / 94 Jd. Enveloping, warm and spicy nose with an extremely wide spectrum of aromas, ranging from dried rose to graphite via thyme and smoked bacon. Very powerful, concentrated and earthy, yet there's brightness in there that makes it shine, Stunningly fine tannins power the super-long finish. Drink or hold. - James Suckling. Dark ruby garnet, purple reflections, a subtle ochre brightening on the rim. Ripe red cherries, a touch of tobacco and leather, dark berries underneath, wonderful nuances of dried herbs, liquorice, an inviting bouquet. Juicy, elegant and fresh, sweet cherry fruit, fine nougat, firm tannins, mineral and long lasting, strong ageing potential, with all the elements of a classic.-Falstaff. The 2017 Châteauneuf du Pape Cuvée Laurence was set to be bottled in November 2021, just after my visit. It boasts restrained aromas of leather, plum and garrigue but compensates for the slightly more sedate aromatics with a supple, complete and rounded feel on the palate. It's full-bodied, silky and long, ready to drink on release or anytime over the next decade and a half. - Jc, Wine Advocate. I loved the 2017 Châteauneuf Du Pape Cuvée Laurence, and it's cut from the same cloth as the Cuvée Réservée, only a touch more exotic and upfront. Tasting like the essence of Provence with its unctuous, full-bodied aromas and flavors of peppered game, Provencal garrigue, cedary spices, cured meats, and assorted red and black fruits, it's full-bodied, deep, concentrated, and balanced, with a great finish. This classic Cuvée Laurence offers incredible pleasure yet will evolve for over two decades. - Jeb Dunnuck. Only produced in select years, the domaine calls it the "big sister" of the Cuvee Reservee with the same blend but extended aging of 4 years in oak compared to 2 years for the Reservee. "2017 has turned out to be a brilliant vintage that, while not in the same league as 2010 or 2016, surpasses 2008, 2009, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2015.this is a classic vintage for the region, and the wines ooze Provençal charm and sunny characters with their spicy, peppery, garrigue-laced aromas and flavors." - Jeb Dunnuck |
