Bucciarelli Chianti Classico Riserva

Description: | Organically Farmed. Podere Casanova is an old estate, once owned by artist Michelangelo Buonarotti to supply his place in Florence with wine. In the 1920s the Bucciarelli family became sharecroppers on the land, and when the practice was phased out, they were able to purchase the estate in 1982. The estate makes traditional wines in the eastern part of Castellina, looking toward the Chianti Mountains. While wines from this area are known for their medium weight and agile, but firm, structures, Bucciarelli's wines show a touch more opulence to the mineral-tinged fruit. In the 2016 vintage, it's darkly-toned, with a sun-baked clay and iron-rich earthiness, a savory palate, macerating dark berries and citrus that contribute enough juiciness required for a mouthwatering balance. The gently grippy, grainy tannins create a traditional rustic edge. "Made with organically farmed Sangiovese, this has earthy aromas of cedar, violet and scorched earth. The taut palate offers ripe blackberry, tangerine zest and sage alongside tightly knit tannins." - Kerin O'Keefe, Wine Enthusiast |
