Burlotto Verduno Pelaverga

Description: | The Burlotto family, one of the oldest producers of Barolo, achieved fame during the seventy-seven years that Commendatore Giovan Battista Burlotto (1850-1927) served as winemaker. He pioneered selling Barolo in bottle rather than cask and his wines were highly regarded internationally. Today his great-great-grandson, Fabio Allessandria, is the winemaker. Pelaverga is an old, and rare, grape variety which the family has grown since 1800 in the town of Verduno. A medium ruby appearance in the glass is the deepest you should find, along with distinctive peppercorn and incense spice aromas that join fragrant red berries, flowers, herbs and baking spices that are familiar in Piedmont reds. In contrast to the lighter style made by some wineries, Burlotto's Pelaverga is full-bodied and flavorful finishing with bright fruits. This is a great warm weather red and will accompany grilled beef, lamb and a range of Northern Italian dishes. |
