Biserno Il Pino Red

Vintage: 2017
Description: Tasting Notes
Il Pino shows an intense nose with ripe fruit and some spicy notes. The oak is well integrated and adds complexity and balance to the fruit. The wine is medium to full bodied with ripe tannins, fine acidity and great length. The wine has all the components to develop beautifully in the next 7 to 10 years.
Il Pino di Biserno truly represents the unique terroir of Bibbona. The special blend of grapes makes Il Pino a classic wine of the Upper Maremma. Although produced from grapes from the youngest vineyards, the wine is distinguished by its balance and finesse. Il Pino demonstrates the character as well as the potential of Tenuta di Biserno. Soil type is part clay, part Bolgheri conglomerate. Vine training is spurred cordon with plant density of 6,500 vines per hectare. The wine was aged for 12 months in new and second use French oak barriques and 10% of the volume was aged in stainless steel.
HARVEST Note - 2017 was a warm and dry year for the region, from little rainfall during winter to a summer with insignificant scattered millimetres of rain during the four-month period from early May to early September. It was a year of adverse weather phenomena in many parts of Europe with frost, hail storms and torrential rain, and many wine regions suffered a reduction in production volume. Tenuta di Biserno and Tenuta Campo di Sasso were fortunate in the sense that apart from the dry and warm to hot conditions our vineyards escaped all damaging weather events.
Blend - 52% Cabernet Franc, 30% Merlot, 15% Petit Verdot, 3% Cabernet Sauvignon
About Biserno
POINTS Of DISTINCTION

A partnership between Marchese Lodovico Antinori, creator of Italian legends Ornellaia and Masseto, and his brother Marchese Piero Antinori, President of acclaimed Antinori Wines
Vineyards benefit from Upper Maremma's perfect terroir
Unique blends, higher in Cabernet Franc
A collaboration with legendary Oenologist, Michel Rolland

Marchese Lodovico Antinori, creator of two of Italy's most famed wines, Ornellaia and Masseto, conceived of his new project with these benchmarks in mind. He discovered the special Tenuta di Biserno terroir, situated in the Upper Maremma, with his long-time friend and wine adviser, Michel Rolland. He is joined by his brother, Marchese Piero Antinori, President of world renowned Antinori Wines.

A Perfect TERROIR
On Upper Maremma's famous coast, Tenuta di Biserno lies among the hills of the village Bibbona, bordering the famed Bolgheri DOC. Representing some of Italy's most prized terroir, Upper Maremma combines unique soil compisition with the cooling influence of the Tyrrhenian Sea. The vineyards of Bibbona and Bolgheri meet each other, as Lodovico observes, “very similar to Saint Emilion and Pomerol.”
Lodovico learned about this parcel of land from Dante Scanavino, his then-General Manager at Ornellaia. Lodovico surveyed the land and was struck by the similarities between this terroir and that of Masseto. But beyond that, what Lodovico recognized here were other elements in the soil that immediately inspired him to plant Cabernet Franc.
