Description: | 5 Stars (*****) Platter's South African Wine Guide 2014 From elevated home-vineyard noted for elegance. Alluring 11 (*****), ethereal spices, & layers of bramble fruit in a svelte body. Complex vinification, cold soak, portion whole-berry ferment, combo wild & commercial yeats (local & Rhone), 40% new oak 2 years. Builds on success of fine 10. 91 pts Wine Spectator 9/30/14 Solid, with baker's chocolate and espresso notes weaving around a core of crushed plum, macerated black currant and bramble flavors. Shows solid, integrated grip on the finish and a lingering loamy edge. 150 cases imported. 90 pts Wine Advocate Issue #215 Oct 2014 The 2011 Three Pines Syrah, which comes from 21-year-old vines and sees 22 months in barrel, has more broody nose than the Stellenbosch Syrah, dark cherries, blackberry, pine needles and a touch of loganberry. The palate is harmonious and focused on the entry. There is fine structure here, good tension and plenty of substance to suggest that it will repay cellaring. |
