Description: | Tasting Note. Serena Sutcliffe, Mw. 82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Merlot. 60% new barrels. A huge black fruit, ‘grand vin' nose, with smoky cassis depth. So utterly juicy on the palate. Smooth and lustrous. Stupendous stuff, with great sweetness and a touch of vanilla and more than a touch of class! A classic of the genre, with a fresh, fruity farewell. Nicholas Jackson, MW. Quite tight on the nose still, but the purity of black fruits impresses (in a vintage where there are many red fruited wines). Then a deep tobacco and black currant taste on the palate. Powerful structure, great balance, no evident alcohol. It's as if in a vintage like this, Leoville becomes even more classic St Julien, which is no bad thing! Tight knit, focused, impeccable Leoville. Victor Rabot. Powerful black fruit nose with no sign of over ripeness. A lot of concentration in the glass yet balanced. A remarkable Leoville that will age gracefully. |
