Clos Lunelles Castillon Cotes De Bordeaux

Vintage: 2019
Description: "a big, ripe, incredibly sexy and mouth-filling style" - Jeb Dunnuck. "This is really fantastic, offering blackberries, blackcurrants and crushed stones" - James Suckling. "Owned by Grard Perse of Chteau Pavie, who noted the striking similarities between the terroir here and at Pavie" - Lisa Perrotti-Brown (Wine Advocate). We thought we'd close out the year with a fantastic Bordeaux offer. We have been loving the 2019's from the right bank of Bordeaux, which offer a juxtaposition of rich, lushly fruited juiciness with a focus and purity that keeps them balanced. The 2019 Clos Lunelles is a great example and offers palate-coating dark fruit with silky tannins. James Suckling gave this wine 94 Points calling it "fantastic" twice in the same review while noting its flavors of "blackberries" and "blackcurrants" and the "long, vivid finish.". Jeb Dunnuck, who tends to favor bold, full-bodied wines gave this 93 Points. His enthusiastic review called Clos Lunelles "a big, ripe, incredibly sexy and mouth-filling style as well as notes of black plums, black cherries, tobacco, and Asian spices." Sounds delicious, right?!. How is so much wine packed into such a reasonably priced bottle? The answer lies in the fine terroir of the Sainte Colombe plateau. The vineyards are located at the highest point in the Ctes de Castillon and are an extension of the Saint Emilion limestone plateau sharing the same characteristics. The second part of the equation is the expertise of the team led by Gerard Perse. Perse also happens to own the famous Chateau Pavie, Pavie-Decesse, Monbousquet and Bellevue-Mondotte. The combination of excellent fruit and winemaking know how combine to make this a compelling wine. The Clos Lunelles vineyard covers 8.5 hectares of vines, composed of 80% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. The grapes are picked and sorted by hand. Traditional and precise vinification and long maturation followed by 18 months in French oak barrels (50% new) without fining or filtering. Clos Lunelles is a fantastic wine offered at a fraction of the price of Chateau Pavie and is available at the lowest price in the country!. James Suckling 94 Points - " This is really fantastic, offering blackberries, blackcurrants and crushed stones. Medium to full body with bright fruit and a long, vivid finish. Agile. Another fantastic wine from here after the 2018. 80% merlot, 10% cabernet franc and 10% cabernet sauvignon. Drinkable now, but better in 2024.". Jeb Dunnuck 93 Points - " Coming from the incredible team at Pavie, the 2019 Clos Lunelles boasts a big, ripe, incredibly sexy and mouth-filling style as well as notes of black plums, black cherries, tobacco, and Asian spices. It brings serious fruit and opulence and is full-bodied, has a round, expansive mouthfeel, sweet tannins, and some obvious underlying minerality. It's already drinking beautifully and should deliver the goods over the coming 10-15 years. While it leads with its fruit, I expect it to show more classic limestone character as it sheds some baby fat."
