This bottling shows a slightly fleshier side to the region's lean, chiseled, and well-structured wines (especially in 2019, with its high-toned, floral wines of lacy tannic structure). It comes from comes from 40 to 70-year-old vines in the Ronchi vineyard (in the Barbaresco sub-zone), with southeastern exposure toward the midday sun, and calcareous clay with sand. Aged at least 20 months in German and Austrian oak, which has a subtle impact on the flavors. It's the historic vineyard for the family, who started growing and selling grapes in the 1940s; Albino Rocca then started the family winery when he took over the vineyards in the 1960s. |
