| Description: | Aquavit is clear to pale yellow in color, and distilled from fermented potato or grain mash. It is most notably flavored with caraway seeds or cumin seed, or using lemon or orange peel, cardamom, aniseed and fennel. The light aroma of caraway, with its pleasant, well-balanced and slightly sweet flavor marks the complex perfection of the true Linie Aquavit. In the Scandinavian countries, Linie Aquavit is usually served chilled and unmixed in small glasses - often straight out of the freezer - and emptied in a single gulp. Region Description. \"Aquavit\" or \"Akvavit\" as known in Scandinavia. This spirit also derives its name from the phrase \"water of life\". Similar to vodka it is distilled from potato or grain. The herb most dominant in the flavor is caraway, but anise, bitter orange, cumin, fennel, coriander, and dill are also present minimally. |
