Cohn Estate, where Scarecrow grapes are born, have gone into some of the most fabled wines ever to come out of Napa Valley, including Inglenook, Opus One and Joseph Phelps Insignia. Many of the vines are around 50 years old and these highly prized "Old Men" continue to produce uncommonly rich fruitthe hallmark of Scarecrow. For a property of such admiration, only a winemaker capable of producing some of the best wines in the world would do and that's where winemaker Celia Welsh comes in! In addition to lofty scores at Scarecrow, Celia makes some of the highest scoring wines in Napa, including Lindstrom, Keever, and Corra ! Harvesting individual rows over a four week period, Celia fermented each lot individually, aged the wine for 17 months in French oak barrels, crafted the blend and bottled without any fining or filtration. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate 95 Points - "The 2019 M. Etain is a blend of 87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Malbec and 1% Petit Verdot. Deep garnet-purple colored, it sashays out of the glass with notes of violets, fallen leaves and incense over a warm cassis and plum preserves core, plus a waft of cardamom. Full-bodied, the ripe, opulent black fruit preserve flavors are beautifully framed by firm, grainy tannins and a lively backbone, finishing long and seductively spicy. 2,600 cases were made." |
