Description: | Accendo Cellars is the Araujo Family's wine brand, made by two generations working together with their longstanding team to honor the winemaking and family heritage of Napa Valley. They seek to ILLUMINATE: to shine a light on what's behind the bottle – great vineyards, enlightened and sustainable farming, artisanal winemaking and the art of the blend. Wines that build on what came before, generation to generation. They also want to Inspire: to produce and promote classically styled wines that express their terroir with balance, purity and nobility; revisit the iconic Napa Valley Cabernets of the 1950s – 1970s, sourced from multiple vineyards and showing perfectly 50 – 70 years later. Great wines don't answer all the questions at the first sip. Great wines inspire a dialog about what makes them great. They wish to Arouse: to continue the conversation about what makes a great wine great, a conversation that burns on, generation after generation; participate in the passion of our efforts to produce singular wines and sustain our industry, our environment and our community. "i find winemaking truly fascinating because, at its highest level, it requires a combination of technical and scientific expertise plus a level of artistic interpretation and instinct. It is humbling that, no matter how much you do, or how much you invest, you can only ever really control 50% of the variables that impact you." – Bart Araujo. Accendo sustains shared appreciation for the great wines and all those who make and drink them with us in Napa Valley and beyond. With their wine Laurea, a Napa Valley red wine, the Araujo family is produces in the style of a Bordeaux blend, made from a strict selection of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot sourced from some of the same vineyards used in Accendo Cellars' Cabernet Sauvignon. Carefully chosen lots are blended by winemaker Nigel Kinsman to create a wine of balance, purity and complexity. Accendo Cellars drew inspiration for Laurea from the name ‘Daphne', the Greek word for ‘Laurel'. According to Greek mythology, Apollo, who had been shot with an arrow by Cupid, fell deeply in love with Daphne, a river nymph. But Cupid had shot her with an arrow that caused her to loathe the first person she saw, and when she saw Apollo in pursuit, she was desperate to escape him. Terrified, she begged her father to rescue her, and taking pity on her plight, he transformed Daphne into a laurel tree just as Apollo reached her side. Heartbroken by his loss of her, Apollo honored her memory by gathering branches of the laurel tree and forming a wreath, which he used to crown the heads of victors in battle, sports and literary pursuits. Today, Laurea is Latin for honor and achievement. The opulent nose of this wine exhibits fresh and bright aromas of cranberries and raspberries, cedar and tobacco, with notes of dried flowers and herbs. In the mouth, the palate is juicy, rich and round, full of ripe flavors of red fruits carried by a framework of fine tannins that give the wine structure and grip, ending in a delicious, long finish with lingering touches of minerality. Winemaker Nigel Kinsman reports, "With this first vintage of Laurea, we have produced a wine that is approachable and pleasurable now, but it will age gracefully over time. Its fantastic flavors are juicy and friendly, and express an immediacy and charm that are irresistible.". 95% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Petit Verdot and 1% Cabernet Franc |
