Description: | Carlisle Winery is a boutique producer owned and operated by husband-and-wife team Mike and Kendall Officer. Their focus is on old vine Zinfandel and Rhone varietals (Syrah, Grenache and Mourvedre), crafting wines that are truly distinctive from one another and showcasing the terroir of their single vineyard sites. After a few of our staff members tasted through the current line-up with Mike himself, it was unanimous amongst us that this producer has rightly earned the high scores they have been receiving on all their wines !. Planted in 1927 by Alcide Pelletti, this vineyard is predominantly Zin with a variety of other grapes such as Petite Sirah and Tempranillo. It was thanks to Italian immigrants in the late 1800s/ early 1900s that settled in the Laguna de Santa Rosa flood plain that caused this area to be referred to as "ground zero" for old-vine Russian River Valley Zinfandel. As stated before, Carlisle vineyards is known for getting high scores on his wines and for good reason. Along with Jeb Dunnuck cooking up a 97-point score for this wine other critics are also aware of how well this wine is!. Jeb Dunnuck 97 Points - "Tons of auxiliary grapes go into the 2021 Zinfandel Carlisle Vineyard, which is deep red and ripe with cassis, cedar, bourbon spices, and peppercorn. Full-bodied, with both richness and an angular structure as well as silky fruit to balance it nicely, it offers notes of ripe red plum and black cherry, baking spices, mocha, and warming earth and is long on the palate. Drink 2024-2034.". Antonio Galloni 94-96 Points - " It's always a pleasure to taste with Mike Officer. This range is best described as a tour of many of Northern California's finest and most historic vineyard sites. In tasting, the 2021s remind me of the 2018s, but with more purity and nuance.". "The 2021 Zinfandel Carlisle Vineyard is another dazzling wine in this range. Sweet red/purplish fruit, blood orange, spice, mint, rose petal and lavender are all wonderfully alive. This pliant, racy Zinfandel-based field blend (with 13% mixed blacks) is an absolute gem. Time in the glass really allows the layers to open.". Wine Spectator 94 Points - " A dynamic Zin, briary but polished, featuring expressive raspberry and dark cherry flavors accented by dried sage, orange zest and savory pepper. Ends with zesty tannins. Drink now through 2033. 753 cases made." |
