| Description: | A past Hi-Time "Wine of the Month," Cantele's Salice Salentino Riserva, is a red that feels perfect for the Fall ! It's a modern expression of the Negroamaro grape, a delicious example of a thoroughly "Mediterranean" variety local to the sunny, hot Salento peninsula, the heel of the Italian boot. The grape feels at home here amongst the herb-scented shrubs, juniper bushes, citrus and fig trees, and prickly pear cacti. Decanter 92 Points - "Splending around eight months in French oak barrels, this mid-weight expression of Negroamaro displays exotic nuances of incense and tapenade intermixed with pomegranate and dark chocolate. Pliant and silky, with just a touch of residual sweetness downplaying the tannic heft and a herbal twist refreshing the luscious bramble fruits to the core, it finishes savoury and seductively floral.". This is an easy wine to appreciate immediately, while yielding enough depth to keep you smelling and sipping. Darkly-hued and velvet-soft, it has a well-measured richness that serves as the stage for mingling aromas of plum and blackberry, dark cocoa, a light herbal hint (like thyme ), and a smoky, woodsy accent. A bright citrusy acidity drives through, giving the mouthfeel balance and flow into the finish where the ripe fruits are reined back in for a tapered, soft landing. Here you find lingering flavors of tangy, ripe, sun-kissed plum-skin, a touch of char, and spices like licorice root, juniper & clove.
