Description: | As one of our top selling reds in the shop, and in celebration of Saint Patrick's Day, we are recommending Rhiannon Red, named for the Goddess Rhiannon from Celtic mythology. A flavorful red made of Syrah, Petite Sirah and Barbera, this was made by Rutherford Wine Co., named Family Owned Winery of the Year at the 2012 New York International Wine Competition. 'Rhiannon' pays homage to the family's Welsh roots. The Goddess Rhiannon is a figure of power and mystery in Celtic mythology, associated with magical birds and horses and the contrasting qualities of change and steadfastness. Crafting a distinctive blend, likewise, balances change and steadfastness: the uniqueness of each harvest must consistently express the winemaker's personal vision. Rhiannon 2018 is the eight vintage of this luscious, red fruit-driven red which Robert Parker has called ‘a mind-boggling value'. Aged in French and American oak, it has red and black currant fruit, sweet dark cherries, licorice and soil nuances. It's a fullly loaded, jammy, California fruit-bomb. Serve with white and red meats, stews, chili and soups, or with hard aged sheep's milk cheeses and aged Gouda-style cow's milk cheeses topped with Fig Jam and/or black olive tapenades. |
