As for the reds, the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve from Alexander Valley showcases what many old-timers like myself know - Alexander Valley can turn out some great Cabernets, and this wine is certainly one of them. Dense purple to the rim with beautiful earthy, graphite, blackcurrant and blackberry fruit, a full-bodied mouthfeel, wonderfully sweet, integrated tannins, and terrific focus and length, this is a stunner and a major sleeper in this great vintage for Bordeaux varietals in Northern California. This should drink well for 25 or more years. Winemaker's Notes. This full-bodied wine entices with captivating aromas of blackberry pie and caramel enhanced with notes of leather and sage. Flavors of dark plum and blueberry are layered upon a solid structure of rich tannins, finishing with toasted oak and cassis notes. Wine maker notes Delicious with aromas and flavors of sweet, ripe black cherry, blackberry, dark spices and toasty, earthy nuances. With a viscous and full-bodied mid-palate, and concentrated, mouth-coating tannins, this wine has excellent depth and a finish that lingers with layers of mocha, spice and sweet oak. Food pairing Our Cabernet Sauvignon pairs well with roasted, broiled or barbecued heavy game and red meats such as lamb, beef, pork and veal. Medium and strong-flavored cheeses, such as blue cheese or sharp cheddar, also pair nicely with Cabernet Sauvignon.
