Anseillan du Château Lafite Rothschild, Pauillac, Bordeaux,

Vintage: 2018
Description: Limited Production, Inaugural RELEASE: The 2018 is Merlot 48%, Cabernet Sauvignon 39%, and Petit Verdot. James Suckling: 93 pts "Deep and dark in color, almost black. Nice brightness. Before aeration, the nose is already intense, a sign of the start of opening. After aeration, it becomes even more expressive with notes of cherries. Smoky notes of the barrel ageing can be distinguished, then spices from the Petit Verdot. Well-balanced on the palate, with lots of volume thanks to the Merlot, and a great structure and freshness brought by the Cabernet Sauvignon, which gives the length that is characteristic of Pauillac.". With the 2018 vintage of Anseillan, Château Lafite Rothschild introduces its first new fine Bordeaux since its creation of Carruades de Lafite in the late 19th century. Anseillan has always been an integral part of Lafite, yet is a completely separate wine in its own right. Anseillan is a ‘lieu-dit,' a site within the Lafite estate. From the windows of the château, Anseillan comes into view on the horizon to the east, on the summit of a gravel outcrop, at the edge of marshlands, forests, and fields of grazing cows.
