Description: | 92 pts (Best Buy) Wine & Spirits Magazine January 2016 Owned by two New Yorkers in love with Mendoza, Casarena is based in two classical regions: Agrelo and Perdriel. winemaker Bernardo Bossi Blends Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec in a wine that shows a delicious array of fresh red fruit and since notes, like pepper and cinnamon. It's gentle enough to drink now with a fatty fish like sea bass, yet structured enough to cellar another five years. 91 pts James Suckling Very attractive core of ripe fruit with spice, berry and light cooked fruit too. Some mushroom also. Full body, powerful and long finish. Drink or hold. 90 pts Stephen Tanzer's IWC - (a 60/40 blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec; a selection of barrels made by the winemaker): Bright dark red. Subtly complex aromas and flavors of blackberry, cassis, licorice, violet, mint and dark chocolate. Sweet, suave and fine-grained, offering a seamless integration of the two varieties. Impeccably balanced wine with even tannins and sneaky length. Coffee and herbal notes add complexity without overwhelming the wine's fruit. An outstanding value. 88 pts Robert Parker Jr.'s The Wine Advocate Aug 2015 (Luis Gutierrez) The 2014 Sinco is a new, entry-level blend. The idea was to have up to the five varieties from Bordeaux, and cinco means five, but the spelling "sinco" is incorrect, though it mimics the Argentinian accent. This first vintage is only a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec that seems to add a little complexity to the separate varietals, since the winemaker has to work more with the blend than the separate wines. It smells like a very serious wine. It has a rich nose of plums, cherries and violet touches with a spicy hint and good purity, especially at this price level. The palate is medium-bodied and reveals fine-grained tannins and pungent flavors. Very pleasant. |
