Description: | In the French department of the Gers, the heart of Gascony, the Artaud and the Grassa families have made history. Traditionally, Gascony has always been a breeding ground for the brave. Whether it is the region's fiercely independent Basque forefathers or its rebellious Huguenot ancestry, there's apparently something in the wine that creates the stuff of legends. The history of the Artaud and Grassa families is as epic a tale as they come. With a family tree of colorful and brave pioneers, from bear trainers to bartenders, prisoners of war to Resistants, it is no wonder that Domaine du Tariquet has pushed the envelope. Not only do the Grassas traditionally distill their grapes into world-class Bas-Armagnac but they were the first in their region to recognize that the quality of their grapes could yield delicious wines. Today, their sons, RĂŠmy and Armin, now run the domaine and have brought it to new heights. They have also added two other estates to the family holdings, Domaine de Pouy, Domaine Lalande, and Domaine La Hitaire, making their own contribution to the family legacy and becoming one of the most well-known winemaking and distilling families in all of France. The grapes Ugni Blanc (60%) and Colombard (40%) do indeed make excellent wine (as well as Bas-Armagnac, natch) as evident in this crisp Summer white we offer today. The acidity is brilliant and it's relatively low in alcohol (10.5%) so it will keep you lively during the warmer days and nights we're currently experiencing. Looking for a seaside or perfect pool pour this season? This is it!. The nose is loaded with Spring melons and stone fruit, lemon grass, lime blossom, pronounced pears and white peach. The mouth is rounded and lush but a forward wave of acidity and light spritz literally send it dancing on the palate, keeping it aloft and lively. Flavors of more spring fruits are joined by citrus punch, melons, well water and a light, piquant spiciness. Enjoy as an aperitif or with salads, seafood, fish, tapas or Asian cuisine. We only have 29 cases, so get it while it's here! |
