| Description: | Bols Elderflower is made from the cream coloured, honey scented blossoms of the elder tree, also called the sambucus nigra. The Elder tree blooms in early summer with crisp and somewhat juicy flowers which give Bols Elderflower a really fresh and fragrant flavour. Its pleasant aroma and full bouquet capture the feeling of a beautiful summer day, thanks to the secret extraction method of the Lucas Bols Master Distiller. Bols Elderflower has the perfect balance in sweetness, floral taste and alcohol content, which make it the ideal ingredient for famous cocktails such as the Elderflower Collins and is delicious over ice or served long with tonic water. Historically, the elderflower liqueur cordial has been popular in North Western Europe where it has a strong Victorian heritage. However, versions of an elderflower cordial recipe can be traced back as far as Roman times and nowadays can be found in almost the whole former territory of the Roman Empire, predominantly in Central Europe, especially in Germany, Austria and Romania. In some countries the drink can be found as an aromatic syrup, sold as a concentrated squash that is mixed with still or sparkling water. |
