Description: | Tasting Notes
Aromas of marzipan, raisins, cinnamon and cherry. Bold notes of black cherries, cassis and spice cake. Full-bodied and voluptuous, with a long, fine and silky finish, this great effort provides one intense ride from start to finish.
Food Pairings - Serve it with a leg of lamb cooked as slowly as possible so that it truly melts in the mouth.
Blend: 50% Grenache, 30% Mourvèdre, 15% Syrah, 5% Cinsault
The terroir of Chateauneuf-du-Pape enjoys a climate of intensity. Polar cold in winter, swept by the glacial mistral, in hot summer which is perfectly suited to Grenache and Mourvèdre grape varieties, it makes sense that it generates wines that contain so much vibration within them. In red clay soils topped with rolled pebbles, the wines can acquire texture, roundness and all the sweetness if characteristic of Chateauneuf.
About Château de Saint Cosme
Located in the heart of the Gigondas appellation, Saint Cosme is a historic estate of a kind unique. Its Gallo-Roman winemaking site, made up of fermentation tanks cut from the rock, has come down to us in perfect condition. It gives a precise idea of what was to be the life of our close ancestors, the Gallo-Romans. Acquired by our family in 1490, the property has seen a succession of 15 generations of winegrowers. It includes 22 ha of old vines with an average age of 60 years. They give small returns. The terroir of Saint Cosme is a geological mosaic linked to the great upheaval of the Dentelles de Montmirail. Saint Cosme is located exactly at the point of intersection of two geological faults, in a cold and late microclimate: balance, freshness and finesse characterize our wines.
The Chapelle de Saint Cosme, located in the heart of our vineyard, is a gem of Roman art. Built in the 11th and 12th centuries, it reflects the purity of Romanesque art: sobriety, simplicity lines, balance of volumes. She illuminates our vineyard with her majesty and makes reign over him a peaceful atmosphere. It deserves the short walk necessary to reach it. We we dedicate to Saint Cosmo, wishing to ensure that the extraordinary is best expressed potential of its terroirs and old vines. The permanence of ancient knowledge, culture organic, understanding the terroirs are our guides. In 1972, Henri Barruol, my father, was already convinced by the value of organic viticulture. He practiced it to respect his vines, produce clean wines and protect the ecosystem of the valley of Saint Cosme. It was a conviction without mercantile ulterior motives because he was selling his Gigondas in barrels, to traders. We are continuing this important work. No weedkiller is used, no chemical fertilizers, pesticides or synthetic products. All the vines are bind to prevent grass invasion. Our ecosystem is dynamic and balanced, our soils are alive.
It was on the basis of this winemaking past that I created in 1997 a business that we can call \ |
