| Description: | While the Fanti estate sprawls across 740 acres in Castelnuovo dell'Abata, which sits southeast of the town of Montalcino, it's very much a family enterprise. The Fanti family has lived on and made wine from these lands for more than 200 years, working as sharecroppers before current winemaker-owner Filippo Fanti assumed control of the family's lands in the 1970s. Just over 120 acres of Fanti's property is devoted to vine-growing (about 60 acres also grows olive trees), and the Fanti family relies on organic agriculture to tend to its vines. Filippo is very much a hands-on winemaker, and he designed the cellar to reflect a combination of tradition and innovation, selected his aging casks with an eye to quality, and chosen to use lightweight glass bottles to reduce the carbon footprint of the estate's wines. Today, Filippo's daughter Elisa works alongside her father, and together with their team, the Fanti estate crafts deeply authentic, terroir-driven wines that reflect the family's philosophy of putting nature first. |
