Kurtatsch "SONNTALER" Alto Adige Schiava (aka Vernatsch)
Vintage: | 2021 |
---|---|
Description: | The vines for this bottling are between 60 and 90 years old! "Old vines produce inherently lower and therefore higher quality yields. Traditionally, Sonntaler is an assemblage of different Schiava (aka Vernatsch) varieties with a large share of Schiava grigia. Ideal terroir and traditional ageing in large Slavonian wooden barrels result in a wine with complex aromas of raspberries, wild strawberries, cherries and redcurrants. Its elegant, lean body is gripping on the palate." - Winery Notes. In 15 Bc, as the Romans advanced towards Bolzano from the Po Lowlands, and conquered Rhaetia, they found a wine-growing culture that was already over 500 years old. It is presumed that Vernatsch was already being grown at that time. The name Vernatsch derives from the Latin vernaculus meaning native. |
