| Description: | This is still quite aromatically closed for now, though some tobacco, cedar, crème anglaise and pineapple can be coaxed out - still very young indeed. It's less opulent in texture than a typical vintage, only just full-bodied, but still has great intensity and drive. Salinity and good acidity provide a strong beam through the wine, giving it length. Not as rich as most recent vintages of Roussanne Vieilles Vignes, this is instead an intense and athletic expression that should live for a long, long time. The oak is well balanced, not excessive; neither is the alcohol. But give this time to open up and perform - currently it's very tightly wound. They've started to pick the grapes for this cuvée a little earlier, and are now leaving the juice on the skins for three to four hours in the press. 30% spends eight months in new barriques and demi-muids. |
