Tenuta San Francesco "E' ISS" Tintore Prephilloxera
Vintage: | 2018 |
---|---|
Description: | Practicing Organic Farming. 100% Tintore. This old variety is rare to find bottled, especially with such quality. The vines are ungrafted and, according to the estate, are between 150 & 300 years old. Vinifed in stainless steel, the wine is then aged in 2500-Liter barrels for 18-24 months. It resembles one of the classic Bordeaux varieties in character. The soils here are thin red clay and pumice over Dolomite limestone. "Nose: undergrowth, ash, graphite, blackberry. Palate: it shows the strong, original and wild character of Tintore grape. Elegant, deep, smooth, earthy, velvety with a long and persistent finish. A wine with a very long aging potential." - Winery Notes. Born out of a desire to revive ancient viticultural traditions, Tenuta San Francesco was established in 2004 and is set in the ancient Di Palma family estate, situated in the green heart of the breathtaking Amalfi Coast. Under the guidance of Avellino oenologist Carmine Valentino, the tenuta produces wines using estate-grown grapes from three local historical families - Bove, dAvino, and Giodano - who were determined to save the last pre-phylloxera vines, well over 100 years old, found in the mountainous Tramonti area. San Francescos vineyards extend over seven hectares situated along steep-sloped terraced lands, rising 300 - 500 metres above sea level and characterized by high density plantings of indigenous grape varietals. Of the seven hectares, four are planted with one hundred year old vines of tintore and piedirosso, while two and half are cultivated with falanghina, biancolella, and peppella. The remaining land is dedicated to a genetic selection of aglianico and piedirosso. |
