Description: | Proprietors Chuck & Anne McMinn and their impressive team of winemaker/consultant Philippe Melka and viticulturalist David Abreu have turned Vineyard 29 into one of Napa Valley's brightest stars. Currently there are two, small production, estate Cabernet Sauvignons which come from the Aida Vineyard (situated between St. Helena and Calistoga) and Vineyard 29 (St. Helena) and a 3,000 or so case bottling called Cru which offers an excellent quality to price ratio for Napa Valley Cabernet. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate 97+ Points - "a blend of 95% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Aida Estate has a deep garnet-purple color and flamboyant notes of stewed black and red plums, boysenberries and black currant cordial plus touches of bay leaves, tilled loam, charcoal and new leather. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is jam-packed with tightly knit black fruit and earthy layers, framed by firm, grainy tannins and seamless freshness, finishing long and savory.". Antonio Galloni 97 Points - "The Vineyard 29 2018s are every bit as impressive as they were from barrel. In recent years winemaker Keith Emerson has started picking a bit earlier, which yields wines that are quite a bit more precise, nuanced and delineated than in the past. Richness comes naturally in this northern sector of St. Helena. The current approach balances that exuberance, as opposed to pushing it to the extreme with huge extractions and copious new oak, as was the case in the past. The result? Striking, complete wines that dazzle from top to bottom. This year I tasted a few more wines than usual, most of them small production lots typically destined to the mailing list. My feeling is that Vineyard 29 is just getting started. The sky's the limit.". "The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Aida Estate is a real head-turner. Inky and flamboyant to its core, the Aida jumps out of the glass. Inky dark fruit, blackberry jam, bittersweet chocolate, licorice, cloves and leather are all kicked up a few notches. The Aida is a rich, hedonistic Cabernet. I would give it a few years to shed some baby fat. In a word: impressive." |
