Description: | Vaglio is the project of José Lovaglio Balbo, son of Argentine wine pioneer Susanna Balbo. He is the head winemaker at her winery, Dominio del Plata, in Lujan de Cuyo, but with Vaglio, which he owns and operates, José aims to showcase the different microclimates of northern Mendoza through terroir-driven wines. This is 100% Malbec from Capataz, a 52-acre sustainably-farmed vineyard planted in 2008 at 3,800 feet altitude in Gualtallary. Here, calcareous, stony soils of alluvial origin impart incredible complexity. The wine is aged for 8 months in 40% in new French oak. A great example of pure Malbec, with notes of dark cherry laced with black pepper, hazelnuts, and a backbone of minerality. This is one of the great Malbec values on the market. JS95: Wonderful intensity of crushed berries, pink pepper and volcanic salt. Full-bodied, yet fresh and vivid with energy and focus. Extremely long and flavorful. Drink or hold. |
