Description: | Hillinger, Zweigelt, Burgenland, Austria, 2011 100% Zweigelt Deep Red, Spices & Cherry, Pinot Noir-esque Leo Hilinger brings us a beautiful version of Zweigelt [Zveye-gehlt]. This red grape was created in 1922 by crossing the Blaufrankish and St. Laurent vines. Today, this is Austria's most planted red grape vine. With a deep red color and a cinnamon, black cherry aroma, this soft tannin, fruity red is easy to drink and reminds us of a full bodied style of pinot noir. Leo employs both oak barrel and stainless steel tank aging to add just a little wood spice and dark chocolate in the mouth. Serving Suggestions: Roast pork tenderloin with our own Hook's 1 year blue made into a blue cheese sauce; or one of Phoebe's savory cheese, bacon and veggie pies. |
