Description: | "a tour de force, and a sensational effort that rivals the first growths" - Wine Advocate. "This is certainly within first growth quality" - Neal Martin. "a dramatic, sweeping wine.super-impressive. quite simply a brilliant showing" - Vinous. This is one of those rare opportunities to grab a monumental, ageable wine at a great price. Lauded by critics, Chateau Pichon-Longueville Baron is unquestionably one of the brightest stars of the 2015 vintage in Bordeaux. In fact two respected reviewers stated the 2015 Pichon Baron shows First Growth quality. Thats quite a statement considering the 2015 Lafite, Latour, Mouton, Haut Brion and Chateau Margaux First Growths are selling for $600-$1500 per bottle. Chateau Pichon-Longueville Baron was designated as a second growth in the 1855 Bordeaux classification and has long been considered one of the great estates of Bordeaux. The vineyards are located in Pauillac and planted to 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot. Increased attention to detail in the vineyards and strict sorting of the grapes ensures only the best make it into the Grand Vin. The wines from this estate have never been better. This is an opportunity to grab a brilliant wine at a compelling price. Supplies are very limited, grab it while you can. Wine Advocate 97 Points - "Possibly the youngest wine of all the 2005 Medocs in terms of its evolution, at age 10 the inky purple 2005 Pontet-Canet tastes more like a two-year-old wine. Loads of pure blueberry, blackberry and cassis fruit are present along with a hint of licorice and background oak. It is full-bodied, ripe, and excruciatingly fresh, vigorous and exuberant. This is a tour de force, and a sensational effort that rivals the first growths. Give it another 5-10 years of cellaring, and drink it over the following 30-40 years.". Jeb Dunnuck 98 Points - "Reminding me of the 1990, the 2015 Chteau Pichon Baron is a sensational bottle of wine made from 80% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Merlot that spent 18 months in 80% new French oak. Boasting a deep purple color as well as awesome notes of black raspberries, toasted spices, cassis, lead pencil shavings, tobacco leaf and building minerality, this full-bodied, concentrated 2015 has sweet tannin, a great texture, and a big, big finish. Pauillac all the way, with both opulence and finesse, forget bottles of 4-5 years and enjoy anytime over the following two to three decades. This is a match for the 2009, 2000, and 1990.". Vinous 97 Points - "a dramatic, sweeping wine, the Pichon-Longueville Baron is even better from bottle than it was from barrel. The 2015 is dense, plush and totally voluptuous as it sweeps across the palate to make its presence known. Nuanced and poised, with seemingly endless layers of nuance, the 2015 is super-impressive. A melange of dark red/purplish fruit, lavender, mint, spice and rose petal builds as this towering, dramatic Pauillac shows off its allure. In 2015, Pichon Baron is endowed with spectacular balance and class. This is quite simply a brilliant showing from the 2015." |
