Description: | In the early days of Rosenthal Wine Merchant Importers' wine prospecting, they had the privilege of meeting Nathaniel Johnston of the esteemed négociant firm Nathaniel Johnston & Sons. Known affectionately as Natty, Johnston was a figure deeply rooted in Bordeaux's wine traditions, with his family having established the firm in the 1700s. During visits with Johnston, which were among the most formative experiences in their wine career, Rosenthal Wine Merchant Importers engaged in modest business dealings, primarily with the rustic wines of Château Hortevie. This initial connection with Johnston led to a significant partnership with Domaine Lucien Crochet. In 1981, Johnston recommended Lucien Crochet, a Sancerre producer based in Bué, for Rosenthal Wine Merchant Importers' portfolio. This recommendation proved invaluable, as the initial order of 300 bottles from the Clos du Chêne Marchand vineyard expanded into a long-term relationship. Domaine Lucien Crochet, formed through the marriage of Lucien to the daughter of Lucien Picard and the merging of their domains, now spans 38 hectares of vineyards. The estate focuses on Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir, cultivated on clay and limestone soils. Since 1989, the Crochets have practiced lutte raisonnée, ensuring high-quality wine production, which Rosenthal Wine Merchant Importers proudly showcases in the USA. |
