Loimer Gruner Veltliner Langenlois

Gruner Veltliner

Vintage: 2014
Description: Kamptal is home to many of Austria's most concentra ted versions of Grüner Veltliner. Loimer is a particularly respected winemaker, and his Grüner Veltliners offer great intensity and fruit purity with fresh acidity and fine balance. Freshly cut pear peel and savory, almost nutty herbs announce a richer style with plump notions of yellow pear and plum. Savory nuttiness is foremost, playing on the rounded and beautifully textured palate. A lasting notion of white pepper makes for an intriguing finish. This has 'food wine' written all over it, and will shine on the table. Wine maker notes The rules for Kamptal Dac state that Gruner Veltlin er must be produced in a fresh style without botrytis or wood. Fred places this wine in his "klassik" range and is intended to be a transparent snapshot of the varietal, the vintage and most importantly the Kamptal. The grapes for this wine come from old vineyards around Langenlois and nearby areas such as Zobing, Gobelsburg, Schiltern and Mollands. Both young and old vines for the wine grow mainly in loess and weathered gneiss soils. The gapes are selectively picked by hand in October. Then, following a short maceration time, they underwent fermentation in steel tanks - partly spontaneous, partly controlled. At the end of January, the freshly fermented wine was drawn off and then further matured on the lees until bottling. Producer Born into a winemaking family, Fred Loimer Jr. realized early on that he would have a future in the winemaking business. Following his formal education and experiences abroad working for other wineries, he returned to his family"s winery in Langenlois, where he utilized his newly gained experience - something that didn't always please his father. In 1998, one year after the winery was handed over from father to son; Loimer bought a historical vaulted brick cellar, a former cellar of the Haindorf Castle, in the middle of the grapevines between Langenlois and Zobing. With the help of the architect Andreas Burghardt, he renovated the cellar adding a minimalist building above to serve as the tasting room and office. Since 1999, the wines have been vinified and stored in the historical cellar under perfect, natural temperature conditions. Moreover, the Veltliners and Rieslings from single vineyard sites are ranked amongst the best wines of Austria and the wine world.
